More About Me
For no reason at all… here are 26 alphabetised things about me that no one really wanted to know anyway:
A is for Amanda, which wasn’t always my name. I was Melissa for a few weeks when I was born until my mother changed her mind. I prefer being called Manda though, cause I like the M.
B is for Buddy, he is my pet snake. I love him and he loves me. Pickle is my other snake, but I already thought of something for P. He doesn’t love me as much, but I love him anyway.
C is for Chuck Palahniuk, who is my favourite author. Most people only know him for Fight Club, but Lullabye and Invisible Monsters are my favourite books of his. Read them.
D is for depression. I used to suffer big time, but I think I grew out of it as I grew into myself. I still get melancholy, but I find that a good inspiration for writing, so it doesn’t bother me much.
E is for elephants. Elephants are my favourite animals and I have lots of little elephant things around my house. I also have a foster elephant who lives in Kenya, his name is Shimba, and when I win the lottery, I plan on going over there to visit him properly.
F is for ferrets. I have 2 boys named Bear and Ajax. I had a little girl named Jinx but she died of lymphoma in June 2007. They live with Adam now.
G is for guitar, which I really want to learn to play. Being a lefty makes it hard though, as well as the fact that the strings hurt my delicate little girly fingers. I’m gonna learn piano instead. I figure being an excellent typist will help, right?
H is for Haiku. Little poems I like to write. Just like this one is.
I is for internet and insomnia. Two things that go hand in hand for me. In a chicken and egg sort of way, I don’t know which one begot which, and don’t really care. Sleep is for the weak.
J is for joke. As in, “Fuck ‘em if they can’t take a…”. I like funny things, I like laughing, I like being happy. Anyone who can make me really laugh has my love and respect eternally.
K is for knitting. I love knitting and crocheting things, though I don’t get to spend as much time doing it as I would like.
L is for left handed, which I am. It made things tricky, like learning to knit, but I deal with it. I actually like that there is something different about me.
M is for make up. I am a trained make up artist, although I have no desire to work in the industry professionally at this stage. Maybe one day. I just don’t want to do weddings forever, I would prefer to be in special fx, but its hard to make yourself available for the blood and guts stuff when you work full time in a cube farm.
N is for nomad. I think I would have been a good one. I don’t get lonely, I actually prefer being by myself most of the time. Good company is hard to come by and silence is golden etc etc.
O is for originality, which I look upon very favourably. In music, art, literature, whatever… originality is good. It’s a shame that generic pulp is so damn appealing though, cause sometimes I just can’t get enough of those mass produced hard candy shells filled with poorly concealed plagiarism and partially hydrogenated corn syrup. I love you Britney!
P is for pink, my favourite colour. Bright, baby, deep, dark, dusty… any pink is good pink.
Q is for Quebec, which is my segue into mentioning how a huge proportion of my favourite things are Canadian. Michael Buble, maple syrup, tuques… and the accent! *swoon*
R is for rain. I love the rain. Storms are better, but rain is great. Everything smells better in the rain.
S is for Sydney, which is where I live. Always have, probably always will. Unless I can find a way to run away to Canada, and someone to run away with.
T is for trivia. I love useless facts about things of little to no importance. I kick butt at Trivial Pursuit and Pub Trivia, especially with anything music, movie or book related. I love pop culture facts and my head is so full of detritus that I can no longer remember anything I learned at school. YAY!
U is for the undead. I love scary books and movies, and don’t shy away from horror. The more fucked up a movie is, the more I love it. That said, most of them I can’t read/watch more than once because they give me nightmares. Hahahahaha! How dumb is that?! Love it! Vampires are my favourite sentient beings, so The Lost Boys, Blade, Underworld, From Dusk Til Dawn, and of course, Twilight… all faves. But I also love werewolves (Ginger Snaps! So bad its good!). And zombies (Shaun of the Dead! BRILLIANT!). I don’t discriminate though, so generic serial killers, psychos and sociopaths are also welcome.
V is for vocabulary. I like big, obscure words. I tend not to use them in conversation though because people either laugh at me or think I am trying to be a smarmy bitch. I save my big words for Scrabble so watch out! I am also a sensational speller, and a certified Grammar Nazi. So its probably a good thing that I am also a professional proof reader, isn’t it?
W is for writing which is my favourite past time. I write blog entries, “essays”, rants, poems, songs, lists and stories. One day I will write a book.
X is for X-Files. I loved that show so much, I wanted to work in Forensics just like Scully, so when a job came up at the local morgue my mother dared me to apply for it. I got it, worked there for 6 months then had a nervous breakdown, the ramifications of which I am still dealing with 10 years later. Thanks for nothing, X-Files.
Y is for Yankee. I love Americans almost as much as I love Canadians. Some of the most influential people in my young life have been from the States, so if I ever get over there, I have many people I will need to visit. I really hope I get there one day.
Z is for zodiac. I am an Aquarius, so I believe in everything and nothing and tend to make up the rules as I go. I am passionate and driven but idealistic and easily distracted. I am also totally awesome :)
